A Conversation on Race in Hawai`i - The Future: We Must Respond
Hawai‘i is host to a diversity of ethnicities and cultures. In some situations we celebrate this diversity, honoring each culture and its history in Hawaii, similar to the way we celebrate the vibrant colors of a rainbow – the brighter the colors, the more beautiful the entire rainbow. In other situations, discrimination is tolerated with a shrug of how “it’s always been.” There are many inequities and challenges that need to be acknowledged and addressed; we are all personally accountable for the system we perpetuate.

Join us in a two-part panel featuring leaders from all sectors of our community on a “Conversation on Race in Hawai‘i – History & Current Issues and The Future: We Must Respond.

Opening remarks by Marissa Machida of National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA)-Hawaii and Bank of Hawaii. Noelani Kalipi (Kalipi Enterprises) will serve as moderator. Panel members are Justin Kollar (Kauai Prosecuting Attorney), Dr. Akiemi Glenn (The Pōpolo Project), Michelle Kauhane (Hawaii Community Foundation), Dean Camille Nelson (William S. Richardson School of Law Dean), Patrick McGuirk (Bank of Hawaii).

Event Sponsors: Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) Honolulu, NAPABA-Hawaii, ACLU of Hawai'i, The Pōpolo Project, William S. Richardson School of Law, Muslim Association of Hawaii, We Are Oceania, Bank of Hawaii.
